CADENZA
CADENZA is a series of performance installations choreographed and directed by Dani Kyengo O’Neill. A cadenza (meaning cadence) is an improvised free rhythmic style or ornamental passage in music played by a soloist to allow virtuosic display.
Using the violin to investigate feminised noise, fragmentation, the “bounded” body and themes of dissent and descent through film, composition and sonic performance, CADENZA is an installation that workshops the tensions between time, tempo, temporality, eros, dissonance and death as imagined through grief, groove and feminised noise within the black sonic imaginary.

My role included producing a score for the projected video that touched on the themes of the performance, involving recorded violin, sound effects, and Foley to create a harsh and impactful composition. During the live production, I oversaw the technical aspects of the show, ensuring a seamless execution of the performance. One of the highlights of the project was creating a glitched version of the score using granular effects and random sample trigger techniques for the second part of the performance.
